Bleeding - Minor

Small cuts and abrasions that are not bleeding excessively are common and can be managed at home.

First aid for minor bleeding includes:

• Clean the wound with a sterile gauze soaked in saline or clean water. Do not use cotton wool or material that will fray leaving fluff in the wound
  
  
• Apply an appropriate dressing, such as a band aid or a non-adhesive dressing held in place with tape. Change this dressing regularly until healed
  
  
• If you can't remove the dirt or foreign material yourself, visit your doctor. A dirty wound has a high risk of infection
  
  
• Contact your doctor if haven't had a booster vaccine for tetanus in the last five year
