What can cause a seizure?
Febrile convulsions happen when there is a rise in body temperature.
The rise in body temperature can be at least 1.5ºC above the normal range - which is 36.5°C to 38°C.
The fever is usually due to a viral illness or, sometimes, a bacterial infection.
Symptoms of febrile convulsions
The symptoms of febrile convulsions include:
- Falling unconsciousness
- Muscle stiffening, twitching or limb jerking
- Breathing difficulty
- Foaming at the mouth
- Pale or bluish skin colour
- Eyes rolling upwards
