What can cause shock?
Shock happens when not enough oxygen is getting to your vital organs and tissues. Things that can cause this include:
- Heart attack
- Bleeding
- Vomiting and diarrhoea
- Burns
- Pain or trauma
- Major or multiple fractures
- Infections
- Allergic reactions
- Severe sweating and dehydration
What are the symptoms of shock?
Depending on the cause, signs and symptoms of shock may include:
- Weak or racing pulse
- Feeling cold or shivering
- Dizziness or light-headedness
- Pale, cold, clammy skin
- Shallow, rapid breathing
- Difficulty breathing
- Anxiety
- Rapid or weak heartbeat
- Heartbeat irregularities or palpitations
- Thirst or a dry mouth
- Nausea or vomiting
- Confusion and disorientation
- Unconsciousness
